Evaluation of Genetic Diversity and Virulence Potential of Legionella pneumophila Isolated from Water Supply Systems of Residential Buildings in Latvia

Legionella is an opportunistic pathogen with a biphasic life cycle that occasionally infects humans. The aim of the study was to assess distribution virulence genes and genetic diversity among L. pneumophila isolated from water supply systems residential buildings in Latvia. In total, 492 samples 200 were collected. Identification spp. performed according ISO 11731, 58 isolates subjected whole-genome sequencing. At least one Legionella-positive sample found 112 out apartment (56.0%). revealed extensive sequence-type diversity, where fell into 36 different sequence types. A total 420 identified, which 260 all sequenced isolates. enhC, htpB, omp28, mip detected isolates, suggesting adhesion, attachment, entry host cells are enabled for relative frequency high. high prevalence, wide range indicated potential environmental high, proper risk management key importance public health.
